Anthropological Research (Tribal Research Institute)

The three major tribes namely the Khasis, Jaintias and Garos predominantly inhabit the State of Meghalaya. Besides, there are also other minor tribes living in the State namely, the Rabhas, Boros, Hajongs and Koches in the plain areas of Garo Hills. Many scholars have attempted their best to study and research their cultural activities and document but they have not been able to give accurate interpretation of their culture and traditions. Hence, there is an urgent need for in dept study and research of the history and culture of these people. As such the branch deals with the study and research of the history and culture of the people in the State in particular and the North Eastern in general.
